Prem star linked with switch to Newcastle

Manchester United v Swansea City - Premier League

It is believed that Newcastle United are interested in attacking midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson in summer if they are to secure promotion back to the premier league this season.

The man from Iceland has reportedly caught the eye of manager Rafa Benitez as he looks to strengthen his squad in summer to compete with Premier League opposition.

Having made 32 appearances for The Swans this season, the 27 year old is also Europe’s top assist maker this season with 11, more then any other player from the top 5 leagues in Europe.

Since joining the Swans back in 2014 the Icelandic international, who featured in their historic victory against England,  has been playing excellent football and managed to swoop up player of the season for Swansea last year.

With 8 goals and 11 assists already this season Sigurdsson will no doubt be in the running for the award again this season, and its no surprise that Rafa Benitez believes the midfielder can help spearhead Newcastles first season back in the Premier League should they win promotion.

Sigurdsson is rumoured to also be unsettled at the South Wales team and it is reported that he wants a move away from Swansea to a bigger club inside Europe.

Newcastle fans, would you like to see Sigurdsson at St.James’ Park in the famous black and white jersey next season? Let us know your opinion in the comments below or get in touch via our twitter @EFLChampBlog.
